First year hunting bear
Hey, just searching for some in put.I have six points going into this season and wondering where I should try and draw a tag from. The U.P.or Red Oak.It is my first bear hunt.I am going the guide route since I work too much to be traveling back and forth.I was planning on a bait hunt. But, depending on what hunt I get or if I get.I am also okay with dog hunting.just searching for some input and guide info.

Red Oak and do lots of baiting. It pays off and is 2/3 the drive. I took a 420 lb black bear opening day there just east of gaylord. Make sure you do plenty of baiting though because the numbers are not as high as the up, but they are there.

Red Oak is not a very good place to do your first hunt, because of the conflict with dog hunters and baiters, I hunt bears all over Mi and the best areas to apply for your 1st hunt is the U P

Red oak has a high success rate and the biggest bears. Changes are being made to guiding that are not completely clear. Theres a lot of things to consider.
Do you have any contacts in the NLP.
