We had eighty percent success at Island Lake Sportsmans Resort in southwest ontario. This was an awesone trip. the smallest bear was 148 pounds, then mine at 236 pounds, next a 350, and biggest, over 400 pounds!:woohoo1::woohoo1::woohoo1:

The two largest ones were taken with a 70lb compound 29" arrows @ 9gpi, and three blabe 100 gr. muzzys. The biggest bruin took two arrows before running off. we let it sit over night and tracked it the following morning. It was tough tracking because there was not much blood. It made it about half a mile and he was still warm when we found him 14 hours later.
I shot mine with a 60lb compound/ 100gr. muzzy MX4 and 29 1/2" arrows @ 9.5gpi. he wend eighty yards and dropped right by the road.
the 350lb bear made it about ten feet. No tracking necesairy:)
The smallest one was shot with a 270 and just rolled over dead.
the fishing wasn't too good but I got some really nice pictures on the lake.
I had a great time and I would recomend it to anyone looking for adventure.

I have seen several bears from the inside of a vehicle, but never while hunting or scouting.
Last night I was walking down a logging road through a clear cut. The clear cut is 12 to 20 foot popular trees. The ferns are so thick you can't see into the sides of the logging trail. I was headed back to the truck and I heard something walking beside the trail. I stopped and thought I might get to see a deer. I was looking up the hill at a tree that was moving and a bear walks out on the logging trail about 15 yards in front of me. She stands there and looks at me for a couple seconds, gives out a whooof noise and runs into the trees on my left. To my right I hear something coming at me through the ferns. Two cubs stop about 5 yards away in the ferns and stare at me. I was right in between the cubs and the sow. I backed down the trail for a few yards then tried to run backwards for awhile. When I got about 100 yards away I called a buddy and told Him to stay on the line till I got back to my truck. I had to walk back through where the bears where to get to my truck.
That was cool. She was beautiful, black hair flowing. Now I really can't wait till I have enough points.

Premium 44 ammo is almost non-existent. I had decided on 250 grain Winchester Supreme Partition Gold. Can't find any, so I fell back on the 270 grain Speer Gold Dot soft point. Can't find any.

If you haven't found yours yet, you had better find it quick or you'll be  at your computer too.

I ended up "settling on Grizzly 250 Grain Bonded Core JFP. Best of luck to everyone on this upcoming (my first) bear season. Thanks, Brian

According to September 2010 Bear Facts News Letter...the fawn depredation study being conducted in Menominee County by the University of Mississippi involved 160 locations investigated. The locations were pinpointed by gps collars fitted on black bears (3 sow bears and 7 males). The locations were investigated for signs of fawn depredation by the bears. None were found. They did find evidence of bears feeding on natural foods and scavenging on livestock which had been dumped by a farmer. Also, a total of 44 newborn fawns were fitted with radio collars this year to learn if any were preyed on by predators. None of the the 44 collared fawns had been preyed on by bears.

Hope some of the folks on this site who were convinced black bears are a major predator of fawns will take this information into consideration.

I have a trip to Wyoming planned for either the first weekend in October or the second weekend (flexible) This is either a four day hunt or a five day hunt for Pronghorn. Last year three of us shot 6 antelope in a day and a half and could have shot more (you can get six tags each). Its a whirlwind trip - leave Wed evening, get there Thursday afternoon, hunt Friday, Saturday, and half of Sunday if necessary, and be back Monday afternoon. It is possible to leave Thursday evening and hunt Friday half a day, and all of Saturday, and Sunday morning, and be back Monday (thus requiring only two days off). Due to a family emergency, a layoff, and a time conflict, my other buds cannot go. I am sitting with a buck tag and doe tag and no one can go! I have exhausted all avenues. The total cost of the trip looks like this:
Buck tag 272 each (you can get two)
doe tags 34 each (you can get four)
conservation tag 12
gas about 150
hotel 85 each

total 553

this does not include food along the way or things like that

call it a 600 trip

Not bad for a western big game hunt. I have the program all set - the accommodations, the places to hunt, the pronghorn , I just need two hunters. Last I checked there was still 600 buck tags left and about 200 doe tags. Elect to buy two doe tags and no buck tag and you have a Wyoming big game hunt for 400

The only problem is that out of over 150 pictures, only one is during the daytime. Any ideas on how to break them out of this cycle? I have tried baiting earlier in the day consistently but with no luck.
